This year, Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday will be different. Unfortunately, we won’t be gathering for delicious pancakes served up by our Men’s Group. We won’t be gathering to receive ashes on our foreheads to mark the beginning of Lent. While we mourn the loss of these traditions this year, we turn to our God of hope who walks with us during these times.
For Shrove Tuesday on February 16th, I encourage you to make your own pancakes at home. I also encourage you to take a picture of you and your pancakes and send it to me either by email (prderek@gmail.com) or text message (540-416-8161) and I will post them on our Facebook page that evening. You might even decide to get creative and make “pancake art” or try new and strange toppings. I also invite you to consider making a special donation to our Special Needs Health Fund. We normally take up an offering for this on Shrove Tuesday, so we appreciate your generosity toward this ministry.
For Ash Wednesday on February 17th, I will be making a worship video and posting it to our Facebook and YouTube page on that Wednesday. Instead of ashes this year, we will begin Lent with an Affirmation of Baptism and prayer. So instead of using ashes, you will be invited to use a bowl of water from home.
Grace+Peace, Pastor Derek
